Our Company began in the lubricant industry
in 1921, making cycle oil and candles. The factory was then based on the
side of the Brayford Pool, which was a thriving area for commerce in Lincoln.
Raw materials were carried by barge from the river Trent down the Fossdyke
Canal and into the Brayford Pool.
Over the years the company grew and a new factory was purchased in 1952 at Webb Street, Lincoln. We were situated on the site of the River Witham but no longer used any water transport. The factory at Webb Street was enlarged until we had completely developed the site potential and in December 1987 we relocated to a 45,000 sq.ft. factory situated on over four acres of land upon the Outer Circle Road, Lincoln, which is one of the leading areas of commerce in the City.
In July 1993 the company expanded it`s operation by purchasing Eastern Counties Lubricants Ltd at Soham, Cambs, which specialise in supplying lubricants and also have a significant presence in the paint retailing industry throughout East Anglia. In April 1996 we purchased United Paints Ltd. at Lowestoft, Suffolk, a paint manufacturing company, which has been established over 75 years and specialises, predominantly, in industrial coatings to suit the marine, steel erection and agricultural industries both in England and overseas. The opportunity to become involved in the manufacturing of paint as well as lubricants has strengthened our expertise in the paint industry immensly.
We are proud to state that Witham Oil & Paint Ltd. remains privately owned and is operated by the Smith & Bottom family who have, for three generations, served as one of the leading lubricant & paint suppliers to Agricultural, Road Haulage, Plant and Industry throughout the regions of East Midlands and East Anglia.
