Motul launches classic engine oils for “youngtimers”

Motul was one of the first brands to launch a dedicated classic oil range back in 2008. These dedicated products with adapted detergent levels to better suit old engines, cover Pre-War vehicles up to ‘Youngtimers’ (also often referred to as Modern Classics in the UK/USA).  As well as lubricants, the Classic range includes coolants, cleaners and care products exclusively designed for the maintenance and care of these automotive gems.

Youngtimers are the future

Cars from the 1970s to 2000, available to enthusiasts at a lower level of investment compared to earlier vintages, have become increasingly collectable. Some specialists consider that the Modern Classic/Youngtimer market began when manufacturers started to replace chrome with plastic. Owners of these cars are typically young men and women under 40 who prefer to maintain their cars the “DIY” way, and who fully immerse themselves in this retro world.

Today’s technology for yesterday’s classics

Motul’s never-ending quest for innovation and passion for performance has now led to the development of two engine oils, which deliver unrivalled protection and superb functionality for classic and vintage engines. Suitable for original or rebuilt engines, CLASSIC EIGHTIES 10W-40 and CLASSIC NINETIES 10W-30 are semi-synthetic multigrade engine oils specially designed for Modern Classic and Youngtimer vehicles from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s fitted with 4-stroke engines, fueled by either Gasoline or Diesel, naturally aspirated, supercharged or turbocharged, injection or carburetor. These semi-synthetic formulas feature a high-Zinc (ZDDP) content for protection and Molybdenum for performance. Their unique formula, reinforced with synthetic base oils, provides excellent cold flow properties to prevent engine wear during start-ups and offers excellent cold-flow properties.  The unique additives package also brings excellent long-term storage protection for those periods when driving just for fun just isn’t possible.

Modern Classic/Youngtimer vehicles are those driven for fun, with passion, and by owners with an interest in collecting them – especially sport or premium/limited edition models. The market numbers almost 10 million cars, of which there are hundreds of thousands in the UK.  There has never been a better time to update a Classic range and to get those cars back on the road and running better than ever.
