British F4: JHR Developments title push continues to gather momentum heading to Cheshire

  • Front-running outfit look to continue championship march at Oulton Park.
  • Rees and Cresswell remain tied together at the Rookie Cup summit, JHR closing in on Fortec in Teams Cup.
  • Sunday’s final race broadcast live on ITV4 at 14:00 (BST).

Motul-backed JHR Developments head to Oulton Park, Cheshire this weekend (31 Jul – 01 Aug) aiming to continue their recent march up the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost standings.

The Derbyshire-based squad have been the ‘in form’ outfit in the UK’s FIA Formula 4 series in recent events, with three race victories, ten podium finishes and all six pole positions to their credit across Thruxton, Snetterton and, most recently, Brands Hatch last month.

Matthew Rees stands as James Hedley’s closest challenger at the championship summit, the Welsh rising star just 20 points away from wresting top spot in the standings away.

Team-mate McKenzy Cresswell has enjoyed four podium finishes thus far and sits third overall, but crucially has a three-point advantage over Rees in the Rookie Cup stakes as the pendulum between the two JHR challengers looks set to swing back and forth over the remainder of the campaign.

Fresh from a starring role on the Formula 1 ® British Grand Prix support package, Abbi Pulling will be aiming to build on her first two podium finishes of the season in Kent last time out, the first after a thrilling drag race to line versus Carlin’s Dougie Bolger.

If the 18-year-old, who also acts as a Motul UK Ambassador, can hit similar heights around the 2.2-mile Island circuit this weekend, there may yet be an opportunity for Pulling to claw her way back into the title picture.

Joseph Loake remains an ever-present in the top ten but will be targeting a return to his race-winning heroics at Thruxton after a few off rounds, the BRSCC Fiesta Junior champion still adjusting to life in single seaters.

In the Teams Cup, JHR sit a comfortable second and continue to zero in on leaders Fortec Motorsport, having gradually reduced the arrears in recent rounds to a mere 20 markers.

Spectators will be treated to a hat-trick of action-packed races from Ford’s rising stars in Cheshire this weekend, with two contests on Saturday (14:10 & 17:35), with a further ITV4-televised race on Sunday at 14:00 (all times BST).
