Race report: Joe Dalgarno at Snetterton

Snetterton was the last two rounds of the MG Trophy Championship, my aim for this weekend was to get 4th in class in the championship standings. This place was currently held by Josh Bacon but due to the damage he sustained at Donington he wasn’t racing.

Prior to Friday testing I had made some changes to the set up to try and cut down my lap times. The first session was red flagged for the majority of the time due to someone dropping oil all around the track. The second session was uninterrupted so I was able to get in a few clear laps which showed I was on similar pace to the leaders. In the afternoon I put in a lot of laps, gradually cutting down the lap time.

10:00am on Saturday saw the start of my qualifying, it was a good session for me but a mistake on a quick lap meant I only started P4 in class for both races. Race 1 started well, for the first half lap I was in a tight battle with Josh Bromley and Jack Chapman which was looking to be a good race long battle until I was taken out of the race by Robin Walker.

Robin received 4 points on his race licence for the incident (these points last a year and if you get 12 points then you have your license taken away from you). I have also made a complaint to the championship about his driving so hopefully he will get other punishment.

The car is unfortunately written off, so the plan at the minute to re-shell the car. The engine and suspension from the current car all seem to be ok, so will be able to save money as we can reuse those parts. However, during the crash the roll cage bent so will mostly buy a whole new cage.
