British F4: Award nominee Rees looks to extend championship lead at Croft

On a week that saw his being nominated for the prestigious Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Award, JHR Developments’ Matthew Rees heads to Croft aiming to extend his points lead in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost.

The 15-year-old from Cardiff, Wales, arrives at the 2.12-mile Yorkshire venue with a narrow four-point advantage at the championship summit, as well as the upper hand over team-mate McKenzy Cresswell in the Rookie Cup stakes.

The pair have been mainstays at the front of the field in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series so far in 2021, backed by team partners Motul, and will be aiming for a return to the winner’s circle this time around alongside the team’s final challenger, Joseph Loake.

Croft, characterised for its combination of high-speed, flowing corners and technical sections, offers a real balance between pace and skill for Steven Hunter’s rising stars, on a circuit that never fails to produce action-packed racing.

In the Teams Cup, JHR will be hoping to make a serious dent in Fortec’s 73-point margin in Yorkshire, their closest rivals having picked up a hat-trick of wins at Thruxton last month.

Having successfully completed a day of pre-event testing, the team now moves on to the start of competitive action with qualifying at 10:25 (BST) on Saturday.

Two races follow that afternoon at 14:15 and 17:35, with one further, ITV4-televised race on Sunday at 13:50.
