Great British Road Trip team raise over £10k for charity

Congratulations to the Witham Group sponsored team who completed their 2,400 mile road trip around the UK in 4 days, raising over £10,000 for charity (as reported by the Lincolnite).
The team had an exhausting (pardon the pun) itinerary  to get through, setting off from Lincoln at 5am on Thursday morning and driving to Lowestoft (the most eastern point of the UK),  Holme Fen, (the lowest), Lands End (the most southern),  St David’s (most western), Ben Nevis (highest) and John O Groats (most northern).. phew!
Their ‘chariot’ was a 20 year old ex-funeral car, which had to transport the six men on their mission all over the UK.

After a promising start, the ‘Beast’ suffered a series of breakdowns due to overheating issues, and unfortunately died a death in the Welsh Hills after the head gasket blew up.

To say the lads were disappointed would be understatement.  However, they were determined to get to the finish line in time for the sake of all the amazing support they received for the six fantastic and charities.  So they pushed on in the support vehicle (which was a challenge in itself with six blokes and all their gear!) and made it to Ben Nevis and John O Groats in Scotland, and then back to Lincoln.

The Great British Road Trip team completed the course in less than 96 hours and raised over £10,000 for six great charities close to their families, colleagues or friends and funded all by themselves.   An amazing achievement – well done boys!
Nigel Bottom, one of the organisers and drivers of the trip, said “Thank you so much to all our families, friends and colleagues who supported us on this trip. It was grueling and disappointing that the car didn’t make it, but we completed the challenge in the support car, had some great fun and are delighted that we have raised so much money for the 6 charities”.
