Line up announced for brand new Motorsport UK Drift Pro Championship

Organisers of the brand-new Motorsport UK Drift Pro Championship have just announced the competition’s entry list, including 21 drivers who represent the best-of-the-best in Drifting. 

With entry by invitation and headed up by multiple-champion Martin Richards, the selection process has ensured the line-up is brimming with former champions and Pro Drifters, driving some of the best prepared cars in the sport. All 21 are set to contest the season’s four rounds, the first of which takes place at Brands Hatch on Sunday 20th June. We’re delighted to see Motul-backed driver Olly Silcock has been invited to join the line up, and will be following his progress closely throughout the year.

Organisers have also confirmed that the competition at each round will involve a Free Practice session followed by a Qualifying session, where 16 drivers will go through to the first of two Finals. The second Final will feature the top eight who will be whittled down to a final two and an eventual winner.

Adding to the overall spectacle of the events and showcasing driving skills to a level never seen before, will be the addition of Driftkhana. Set to follow each day of competition, Driftkhana is a special on-track stage featuring obstacles and tests that will push all 21 drivers to their limits as they compete against the clock to deliver a penalty-free run.

In addition to the Driftkhana, organisers are introducing a range of other innovative features. These include live voting via an App system, enabling the public to get involved and cast votes, the Drift Pro Hyper Paddock, with a showcase display of the teams, music and social areas, plus live-streaming TV that features cutting-edge race-drone footage.

“We are delighted to have signed-up such a great line-up of drivers with us for our first ever season”, says Championship Promotor Andy Barnes. “Everyone involved knows they are going to be part of Drifting history in the UK and we’re sure that has inspired the enthusiasm and support that we’re received so far, in particular from the teams that have joined us”.

“With all of its innovative features and with the support of Motorsport UK, the sport’s governing body in Britain and MSV, the owners and operators of the circuits the championship will be visiting, we are looking forward to launching this new era of Drifting at Brands Hatch”.

As well as hosting the very first round of the Motorsport UK Drift Pro Championship, the first event at Brands Hatch is also the qualifying event for the FIA Motorsport Games, with one driver going forward to represent Britain in this truly international occasion that takes place at the Paul Ricard Circuit in the South of France during October.
