NEW PIPEWORK INVESTMENT FOR OUR BASE OIL TANKS

Witham Group Oil Tanks

We are pleased to inform you that we are investing in a significant upgrade to the pipework of our external bulk base oil tanks, which are situated at the back of our four acre site at our Lincoln factory.

Each tank has the capacity to hold up to 45 tonnes of base oil, making sure we always have the raw material on hand to provide a speedy and reliable supply of finished products.

Base oil is the primary ingredient in lubricant manufacturing, making up the majority of their composition. It serves as the foundational fluid that carries additives and provides the essential lubricating properties. Base oils are categorised into three main types:

  • Mineral Oils: Derived from refined crude oil, these are the most commonly used base oils in lubricants. They are further divided into Group I, II, and III, depending on their refining process and purity.
  • Synthetic Oils: These are chemically engineered base oils, often offering superior performance in extreme temperatures, better oxidation stability, and longer service life. They include polyalphaolefins (PAOs), esters, and other synthetic variants.
  • Vegetable Oils: Used in environmentally friendly lubricants, these are derived from plant-based sources like soybean or sunflower oil, offering biodegradability and low toxicity.

Each type of base oil has different characteristics, affecting the overall performance of the lubricant, such as viscosity, stability, and resistance to oxidation.

We will be replacing the pipework over the coming months in several stages to ensure no disruption to our operations. This investment will ensure Witham can continue to supply a fast and reliable service of British blended lubricants for many years to come.
