RELIABLE DELIVERIES
Service is the cornerstone of our business and we carry out over 46,000 deliveries a year. With our fleet of own Witham lorries and friendly and helpful team of drivers, we can offer enviable delivery turnaround times as well as helping customers with emergency drop offs in times of special breakdown or need. We also use international couriers to ensure our products can reach all our of customers, wherever they are as quickly as possible.
The drive towards a greener and more sustainable commercial transport fleet has been a journey that the whole world is embarking on. In 1990, the new legal requirements and framework of the EU Road To Zero Standard came into force which set out a roadmap to eradicate pollution from transport and aim for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from light and heavy duty vehicles by 2050.
Monitoring the amount of carbon our lorries produce out on the road delivering our products is an integral part of our business. We now study the mileage and output of each lorry and we aim to continually improve our carbon impact.
Using our Transportation Dashboard, we can measure the carbon produced, the mileage and fuel use of all our delivery fleet of lorries, based on the vehicle’s age, type etc. We also review how many deliveries are achieved on what route and this way we can use the best vehicles for the right journeys, with the aim of achieving the maximum fuel economy and reduction in wear and tear of the vehicles themselves.
So, as an ongoing part of our Group’s strategy to reduce as much as possible our environmental impact, together with a desire to be able to share any genuine savings using fuel efficient lubricants based on our own fleet with customers, our HGV fleet has moved over to fuel efficient lubricants.
We have switched the lorries from Qualube Supremol 10W-40 engine oil to Qualube Supremol 5W-30. The technicalities are the same, but the viscometrics make all the difference; The lower viscosity means the oil flows more easily through the engine and reduces the hydrodynamic drag between the moving parts. Less resistance means less energy needed and therefore the vehicle uses less fuel.
We also use HVO fuel, a Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, which is a renewable biofuel that can be used as a drop-in replacement for conventional diesel. It is made by converting waste materials like animal fats and used cooking oil into a high-quality paraffinic diesel through a hydrotreatment process. HVO burns cleaner, produces significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants like NOx and particulate matter, and has a longer shelf life than traditional diesel.
